Setting up WS-FTP for use with CoreComm
Overview
The file transfer protocol (ftp) allows a user on any computer to get files from another computer, or
to send files to another computer. Security is handled by requiring the user to specify a user name
and password for the other computer. Ftp is a utility that you run any time you want to access a file
on another system. You use it to copy the file to your own system.
Anonymous ftp is a protocol for accessing public archives on the internet. Guests login as
anonymous and send their e-mail address as the password.
There are many FTP client applications that can be used for transferring files, however, we suggest you use WS-FTP.
We also suggest that you use anti-virus software if you transfer any files from the Internet. Virus detection and clean-up products by both McAfee and F-PROT are well respected.
The WS-FTP application is a file transfer protocol (ftp) client application for Windows Sockets and
was designed to take full advantage of the point and click capabilities of the Windows 3.x
environment. WS-FTP provides ease of use for the beginner, plus a full set of functions for the power
user. WS-FTP provides features like retention of site profiles and functions like multi-file transfer using
standard windows methods.
