ISDN is a great solution for those who need higher bandwidth than what a 56K modem can offer, or low-cost dedicated access solutions (as compared to what you might pay for a T1 or T3 line). If the costs of ISDN service are within your budget, then ISDN may be right for you or your business.

Dial-up ISDN service provides connection speeds of 64kbps or 128kbps and is available throughout much of the coverage area. You will need to purchase a specially configured modem, called a terminal adapter, in order to connect your computer to an ISDN line. Additionally, your local telephone service provider must install an ISDN line to your home.

These lines typically cost little more than a standard phone line, and can operate just like a standard phone number. With the proper ISDN modem, your telephone can be connected to your ISDN line to handle incoming and outgoing calls, even when you are using the Internet.
