Extra E-Mail Account Setup

This document will describe to you how to use your extra E-Mail accounts, and will show you how to configure the most popular software E-Mail packages. We will cover Netscape Navigator 3.0x, Netscape Communicator 4.x, Eudora Light 1.x.x and 3.0.x, Eudora PRO 3.x and 4.x, Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0 (and later), Microsoft Inbox/Exchange/Microsoft Outlook 97, Microsoft Outlook Express/Microsoft Outlook 98, and Outlook Express 5.0. If you're an advanced user, the information in Names and Numbers at the end of this document may be all you need to get set up. While we show you how to set up many different mail programs, we recommend for multiple E-Mail accounts you use either Netscape Communicator 4.x, covered in Part Two, or Outlook Express, covered in Part Nine. Both these programs support multiple accounts natively, making them the best to use.

If you are unsure of what program you are using for E-Mail, here's how to find the name and version. Open the program like you would normally to get your E-Mail. Click on the Help menu and then click on About [program name]. This should open a window displaying the name of the program and the version number.

Names and Numbers

Important Terms

Throughout this document and your dealings with CoreComm you may hear a few terms which can be confusing. Here are a few important definitions which can help you understand us:

Login Name - This is the name that you signed up with. For example, if you signed up for the address johndoe@core.com then your login name is johndoe@core.com. The login name will also be the name used to dial into our PPP system (the "web") and for E-Mail.

Part One: Netscape Navigator 3.0x

There is no 'built-in' support to use more than one E-Mail account with Netscape Navigator 3.0x. Because of this limitation, it is recommended to use different E-Mail programs on more than one computer to access your additional E-Mail accounts. However, you can choose to change the settings each time you access the different E-Mail accounts. To do this, simply click on Options, Mail and News Preferences, and click on the Servers tab. Fill in the information listed below. As stated earlier, Netscape 3.0x can only check one E-Mail account at a time, so you either have to change the settings each time you want to access a different account or do this same procedure on a different computer to access another E-Mail account.

POP3 User name or POP3 User ID: Your login name

Make sure the settings for the incoming and outgoing mail servers are correct. The outgoing (smtp) mail server should be authmail.core.com. The incoming (pop3) server should be [See additional information].

Then, click on the Identity tab on top.

Your Name: Your full name (ex: Johnathan Doe)
Your E-Mail: Your E-Mail address (ex: johndoe@core.com).
Reply-to: You can leave this blank

Once you've made the changes, hit the OK button. Now, when you Get New mail or write new messages, it will work for your extra POP account.

Note that while Netscape is now set up to send a receive in the POP account's name, you will need to run through the above steps again to set it back to sending and receiving for the parent account.

Part Two: Netscape Communicator 4.x

In Communicator, each person (E-Mail account) is set up as an individual profile. In Windows 95/98/NT, click on Start -> Programs -> Netscape Communicator -> Utilities and then click on Profile Manager. On the Macintosh, open your Hard Drive, then the Netscape Communicator folder. In there, you will see the User Profile Manager; open that. On Windows 3.1, the Profile Manager will be located in the same group that Netscape is. Open that to create a new profile for your extra POP account(s). Here's a sample profile:

Full Name:Your full name (ex: Johnathan Doe)
E-Mail address:Your E-Mail address (ex: johndoe@core.com)
Profile Name:This can be whatever you choose (ex: John's E-Mail Account)
Path:Do not change the default path listed
Your Name:Your full name (ex: Johnathan Doe)
E-Mail Address:Your E-Mail address (ex: johndoe@core.com)
Outgoing (SMTP) Server: authmail.core.com*
Mail server user name:Your E-Mail login name: (ex: johndoe)
Incoming Mail Server: [See additional information]
Mail server type:POP3
News NNTP Server: news.core.com
Port:This should be 119 and the secure box should NOT be checked

When done, click on Finish. Now, each time you open Communicator, you'll be prompted for which profile you want to use for that session. That's it! These separate profiles also keep bookmarks and address books independent.

Part Three: Netscape Mail 6.x and 7.x

With Netscape running, Click on the Edit Menu, Select Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings, Click on the Add Account button. This should bring up the Account Wizard window. Make sure the circle labeled "E-Mail Account" has a dot in it. Click on the Next button.

Your Name:Your full name (ex: Johnathan Doe)
E-Mail address:Your E-Mail address (ex: johndoe@core.com)
Mail server type:POP
Incoming Server: [See additional information]
User Name:Your E-Mail login name: (ex: johndoe)

When done, click on Finish.

Note: When setting up additional E-Mail account in Netscape, you will not be asked to specify an Outgoing Server for any accounts other than the original account created. All mail accounts in Netscape rely on and use the same server to send out all mail.

Part Four: Eudora Light 1.x.x

Eudora Light 1.x.x is -very- old. If at all possible, it is highly recommended that you upgrade to Eudora Light 3.x which you can download for free.

Windows
In Eudora Light, there is no built-in support for multiple E-Mail accounts. Because of this limitation, it is recommended that you use more than one computer to access your additional E-Mail accounts, or use a different mail program. Otherwise, you will have to change these settings every time you want to access the mail for your different accounts.

If you want to change the settings, click on the Special menu, then select Settings. From the category list on the left, click on the Getting Started icon.

POP Account: Your E-Mail login name @[See additional information] (ex: johndoe@[See additional information])
Real Name: Your full name

Then click on the Personal Information category.

Return Address: Your E-Mail address (ex: johndoe@core.com)

Then click on the Hosts category.

SMTP: authmail.core.com

Hit the OK button, and you're all set to use E-Mail for your new E-Mail POP Account.

Macintosh
Open the Hard Drive, then open the System Folder. You should see a folder labeled "Eudora Folder". The first thing you'll have to do is create a duplicate copy of this folder. You can do this by single-clicking the icon, (this will highlight the icon) and going up to File, and pulling the menu down to Duplicate. When you let go of the Duplicate option, the Macintosh will create a perfect copy of the Eudora Folder, leaving you with a pair of icons that will look exactly alike.

You'll want to move the two icons to separate locations for ease of use. Double-click into the Eudora Folder copy, then double-click on the Eudora Settings icon. This will start up the Eudora Light program. When the program is finished loading, go to the Special menu again, and choose Settings. When the Settings window appears, you'll notice that the information for your regular CoreComm account is listed in the POP Account field. That's okay, these settings are an exact duplicate of your original settings. But we can change the settings in this folder, to give Eudora the ability to read two separate E-Mail accounts by using one program. This is where we'll fill in the information for the extra E-Mail account.

Click on the Personal Information category on the left.

POP Account: Your E-Mail login name @[See additional information] (ex: johndoe@[See additional information])
Real Name: Your full name (ex: Johnathan Doe)
Return Address: Your E-Mail address (ex: johndoe@core.com)

Then click on the Hosts category.

SMTP: authmail.core.com

Hit the OK button, and you're all set to use E-Mail for your new E-Mail POP Account.

Part Five: Eudora Light 3.x

To do this with Eudora Light, you must "trick" the program. Eudora Light is only intended to handle one mail account, but as you'll soon see, by following a few steps, you'll be able to use Eudora Light to check as many mail accounts as you like. If you do not feel comfortable with the following steps, but you want to use Eudora, you must purchase Eudora Pro, which has built-in support for multiple accounts. You can find Eduora Pro in most any software retail store, or from Eudora's home page.

Windows 95/98/NT
To setup an extra E-Mail account on a Windows machine, you'll first need to create a folder to store your extra mail account's mail:

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon, then on your C:\ drive
  2. Click on the File menu and select New> Folder
  3. Rename the New Folder to something like "MyMail"
  4. Remember the name you gave this new folder! (ex: C:\MyMail)

Now we need to Create a Shortcut that will allow us to utilize this new "MyMail" folder:

  1. Use your Right-Mouse button to click on the Start button
  2. Select Open, then Double-Click on "Programs", and "Eduora Light"
  3. Highlight the Eudora Light icon (click on it once)
  4. Click on the File menu and select "Create Shortcut"
  5. Rename the shortcut (call it something like "Eudora - MyMail")
  6. Make sure your new Eudora shortcut is Highlighted
  7. Click the File menu, select Properties, & select the Shortcut tab

Here you will see a field called "Target:". It will already have the path to the Eudora Light program in there. You must type in the full path to your new mail folder at the end of this line, contained in quotes, separated by a single space. For example, your's might look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Eudora Light\eudora.exe" "C:\MyMail"

Once you have typed in your mail folder's path, you can click on the OK button and close all the windows you might have open. Now click on your Start button, go to Programs and Eudora Light. You'll see your new shortcut to Eudora which will use your extra mail account in there. Click on it to start the program, then skip down to the Configure section.

Macintosh
To setup an extra E-Mail account on a Macintosh, open the Hard Drive, then open the System Folder. You should see a folder labeled "Eudora Folder". The first thing you'll have to do is create a duplicate copy of this folder. To do this, highlight the icon (single-click on it), and go up to File ->: Duplicate. This will create a perfect copy of the Eudora Folder.

You'll have to move the two folders to separate locations for ease of use. Double-click the Eudora Folder copy, then double click on the Eudora Settings icon. This will start up the Eudora Light program. When the program is finished loading, go to the menu Special, and choose Settings. When the Settings window appears, you'll notice that the information for your regular CoreComm account is filled out in the POP Account field. That's okay, these settings are an exact duplicate of your original settings. But we want to change the settings in this folder, to give Eudora the ability to read two separate E-Mail accounts by using one program. This is where to set up the extra pop account.

Then click on the Hosts category.

SMTP: authmail.core.com

Hit the OK button, and you're all set to use E-Mail for your new E-Mail POP Account.

Eudora Pro is the only version of Eudora that directly supports multiple E-Mail accounts. This is a commercial product that you can purchase in a retail store or purchase directly from Qualcomm at their web site.

To check mail from one of the boxes, go to the personalities window (Tools -> Personalities to open it), and right-click on the personality you want to use. From the pop up menu, select Check Mail. To send mail, you can do it the same, way: right-click on the personality you want to use, then click on Message -> New Message As.

On the from line, it will give you the option to choose which personality you want to send from.

Note: If you have multiple users set up in Windows95/98 or multiple network logins, you will be able to use separate profiles in Inbox/Exchange or Outlook 97. You can access these profiles by clicking on Tools Services and choosing Show Profiles.

Use the following instructions if you're using the Inbox icon on your Windows 95/98 desktop or if you're using the Outlook 97 program included with Office 97. Some versions of these programs do not support multiple accounts. To see if your version of Inbox/Exchange or Outlook 97 has multiple account support, go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panels. Once you have selected one, continue by clicking on Next>.

It will ask you for your E-Mail address. fill in your login name@core.com (ex: johndoe@core.com). Go to Next>; Here it will ask for the mail box name and password. For the mail box name, fill in your login name and for the password, put in your password. Go to Next>.

The next two screens will be asking where you want to put your Personal Address Book and you Personal Folders. Do not change these options, just go to Next> on both screens.

The last screen will ask you if you want to add the program to the Startup Group. Choose the option to NOT add it to the startup group and go on to Next>. It will tell you that you're done, so click on Finish, and then Close. You can now close out of the Control Panels window.
