Important Terms

Login Name - This is the name that you signed up with. For example, if you signed up for the address johndoe@core.com then your login name is johndoe@core.com. The login name will also be the name used to dial into our PPP system (the "web") and for E-Mail.

CoreComm Local Access Numbers

As always, before using any CoreComm local access number, please check with the operator (dial 0 on a phone attached to the line you will be calling from) to ensure that the new number will be a local call from your business or residence. CoreComm is not responsible for any long distance charges incurred when using this service.

Part One: Downloading Eudora Light

In order to download this program, you will need either a web browser or an ftp program.

If you have a web browser, use the address:

Eudora Light 3.0.6 for Windows 3.1, 95/98, and NT
ftp://ftp.qualcomm.com/eudora/eudoralight/windows/english/306/eul306.exe

Eudora Light 3.1.6 for Macintosh
ftp://ftp.qualcomm.com/eudora/eudoralight/mac/english/3.1.3/eudoralight313.hqx

Please Note: Directories on these sites are subject to change without notice.

Part Two: Setting up Eudora

The first time you open Eudora, it should prompt you for setup information. If it does not, select Tools -> Options on Windows or Special -> Settings on Macintosh. This screen will give you several different categories to choose from. From the category list on the left, select Personal Information. Fill in the following information:

POP Account: Your "extended" E-Mail login name@[See additional information] (ex: johndoe@[See additional information])
Real Name: Your Name (ex: Johnathan Doe)
Return Address: Your E-Mail address (ex: johndoe@core.com)

Then click on the category labeled Hosts.

SMTP: smtp.core.com
(Leave PH and Finger blank)

Now click on Ok.

Your mail is set up!

Part Three: Using Eudora Light

Using Eudora is very simple. To retrieve your new mail, open Eudora, and click on File -> Check mail. When getting your mail for the first time, it will ask you for your password. Type it in and click Ok. To view your messages, click on the menu called Mailbox, and select In. This will show all your messages. Simply double-click on the message you want to read to open it.

To send mail, Click on Message -> New Message. On the line that says To:, fill in the E-Mail address of the person you would like to send a message to. the from: line should already have your E-Mail address filled in. The line that says cc: is used for mailing to more than one person the same message. You can put as many E-Mail addresses as you like, as long as they are separated by a comma and a space. (For example; cc: johndoe@core.com, janedoe@core.com). The Subject: line can be anything you want or left blank. The large space below the, subject line, is where you type in your E-Mail message. When you are ready to send, simply click on the Send button.

Part Four: Setting Up Multiple Accounts

If you have more than one E-Mail (POP) account, you can set up Eudora to access those different E-Mail accounts. To do this with Eudora Light, you must "trick" the program. Eudora Light is only intended to handle one mail account, but as you'll soon see, by following a few steps, you'll be able to use Eudora Light to check as many mail accounts as you like. If you do not feel comfortable with the following steps, but you want to use Eudora, you must purchase Eudora Pro, which has built-in support for multiple accounts. You can find Eudora Pro in most any software retail store, or from Eudora's home page

Windows 95/98/NT
To setup an extra E-Mail account on a Windows machine, you'll first need to create a folder to store your extra mail account's mail:

  1. Double-click on the My Computer icon, then on your C:\ drive
  2. Click on the File menu and select New> Folder
  3. Rename the New Folder to something like "MyMail"
  4. Remember the name you gave this new folder! (ex: C:\MyMail)

Now we need to Create a Shortcut that will allow us to utilize this new "MyMail" folder:

  1. Use your Right-Mouse button to click on the Start button
  2. Select Open, then Double-Click on "Programs", and "Eduora Light"
  3. Highlight the Eudora Light icon (click on it once)
  4. Click on the File menu and select "Create Shortcut"
  5. Rename the shortcut (call it something like "Eudora - MyMail")
  6. Make sure your new Eudora shortcut is Highlighted
  7. Click the File menu, select Properties, & select the Shortcut tab

Here you will see a field called "Target:". It will already have the path to the Eudora Light program in there. You must type in the full path to your new mail folder at the end of this line, contained in quotes, separated by a single space. For example, yours might look like this:

"C:\Program Files\Eudora\eudora.exe" "C:\MyMail"

Once you have typed in your mail folder's path, you can click on the OK button and close all the windows you might have open. Now click on your Start button, go to Programs and Eudora Light. You'll see your new shortcut to Eudora which will use your extra mail account in there. Click on it to start the program, then skip down to the Configure section.

Macintosh
To setup an extra E-Mail account on a Macintosh, open the Hard Drive, then open the System Folder. You should see a folder labeled "Eudora Folder". The first thing you'll have to do is create a duplicate copy of this folder. To do this, highlight the icon (single-click on it), and go up to File -> Duplicate. This will create a perfect copy of the Eudora Folder.

You'll have to move the two folders to separate locations for ease of use. Double-click the Eudora Folder copy, then double click on the Eudora Settings icon. This will start up the Eudora Light program. When the program is finished loading, go to the menu Special, and choose Settings. When the Settings window appears, you'll notice that the information for your regular CoreComm account is filled out in the POP Account field. That's okay, these settings are an exact duplicate of your original settings. But we want to change the settings in this folder, to give Eudora the ability to read two separate E-Mail accounts by using one program. This is where to set up the extra pop account.

Configure
On the category list on the left, click on the Personal Information category.

POP Account:login name@[See additional information]
(ex: johndoe@[See additional information])
Real Name:Your Name or Nickname
(ex: Johnathan Doe)
Return Address:Your E-Mail address
(ex: johndoe@core.com)

Then click on the Hosts category.

SMTP: smtp.core.com

Hit the OK button, and you're all set to use E-Mail for your new E-Mail POP Account.
