NEW YORK (AP) — The U. S. stock market is closing higher as banks recover some of their sharp losses from the day before. The S&P 500 rose 0. 5% Friday and closed out its best week since early August. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0. 5%, and the Nasdaq composite rose 0. 5%. Bank stocks rose after several reported stronger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected.
